Community Engagement & Training

Many of our trail construction projects include community engagement with a range of stakeholders, either to produce trail design, to advise on construction works and approach or even to work with community volunteers to ensure maximum output post construction. We are highly experienced in liaising with community members regarding trails and have delivered a range of site walks, planning workshops and drop-in sessions and training programs with stakeholders to ensure that our works meet the needs of the stakeholders, and that our clients aim can be achieved. This work has also included liaison with environmental groups and Aboriginal traditional owners to ensure that they are aware of our works and how we are mitigating associated project risks.

Project: Ourimbah MTB Park Trail Aboriginal Engagement

Client: Central Coast MTB Club, NSW

Budget: $1,000

Timeframe: June 2017

Description:

We were engaged by Central Coast MTB Club to deliver works associated with their flow trail which was nearby to a scar tree identified through a search of the AHIMS database. Whilst the scar tree was far enough away from the trail location to not require further assessment, we were engaged by the club to meet with elders from the Local Aboriginal Land Council to discuss the project to ensure that cultural heritage would not be impacted. This involved a walk on country to discuss the trail design plans, and how the site would be protected. Following the walk on country the Local Aboriginal Land Council was satisfied that the site was protected, and works were able to commence.

Budget: $2,000

Timeframe: August 2017

Description:

Following construction of the Upper Flow Trail, we were engaged by the Central Coast MTB Club, NSW to host a series of expert trail maintenance sessions to engage with members and volunteers to provide education on trail maintenance. The program included 4 x half day sessions with 10 volunteers in attendance with skills about trail grooming, water management and environmental conservation. We also provided a short checklist for trail maintenance activities as well as some mapping to show the areas that would require regular maintenance due to the topography and features of the trail. To this day the members of the club undertake maintenance of these trails, with knowledge passed on from our training sessions.
